About Mainstage

Mainstage Production History : 1952 - 2011

Mainstage

The Junior Theatre Mainstage Company consists of students, 6th - 12th grade, from all over the Quad City Area. The Mainstage Company brings together the most talented youth alongside the strongest local professional designers and directors to bring high quality productions at an affordable rate to all.

The Mainstage Company is the second oldest producing company in the United States that is committed to the mission of “Theatre for kids, by kids.” (Brief History). This is a great opportunity for students to gain invaluable skills and make friends that will last a lifetime.

We produce four, fully realized productions in the Mary Fluhrer-Nighswander Theatre on the Annie Wittenmyer Complex.

Auditions are typically held held twice a year in late-August and mid-December. Check back on the website, as auditions are posted as soon as they are set.

Junior Theatre is a non-profit entity. The only way we can survive is on the generosity of others who believe in our mission and that the arts give children skills that crossover into every field. Donate today! All donations may be used as a tax write-off.

Mainstage Production List : 1952 - 2011
Davenport Junior Theatre became a Parks & Recreation program in 1950-51. Mary Fluhrer-Nighswander had begun privately teaching acting and diction lessons a few years prior. Leone Bredbeck (Creator of Showtime Pal and Recreation Director at that time) thought that Mary's teaching would be a fine addition to Parks programs that were already in place. Mary would travel to the various parks teaching acting. After only a year, Mary and Leone saw a need to bring these students together from all over the city to form a company. From that moment, a genesis occured that would create the second oldest producing children's theatre in America to maintain the mission of "Theatre for Kids, by Kids." Generations of Quad City Area children have had the joy of being members of this company. Take a glimpse into the Davenport Junior Theatre Mainstage Acting Company production history below.
